10 Types of Friends You Should Make in College

You"re going to meet a vast array of people once you head to college, but with all the different personalities around you, how are you supposed to pick your friends? To give you a head start, here are 10 types of people you should befriend.

The Long-Lost Twin
The Long-Lost Twin
They say opposites attract, but there’s just something incredible about finding a friend who has nearly identical interests as you. You can talk about your favorite bands while you were growing up, your favorite foods, and everything in between — and you know they’ll never get bored because they love the same things!
The Gym Rat

Especially if you have a hard time following through on your plans to work out three times a week, it can be useful to find a friend who’s just a little too into fitness. They’ll motivate you to stay in shape (by dragging you to 6 a.m. yoga), and everyone knows that friends who gym together, stay together.
The Foreign Exchange Student

There’s no better way to learn about another culture than to befriend someone who is from that culture. Building a friendship with someone who is from a different country can broaden your horizons and make you a more open-minded person. And the biggest benefit is that they can cook you delicious, authentic cuisine from their country.
The Overachiever
The Overachiever
We all have (or should have) that one friend who wants (and needs) to get an A in every class. They often forgo the partying in favor of studying, and even though they may not be the most fun friend, they may end up becoming one of your most valuable friends. Spending time with someone who is ambitious will hopefully push you to focus more on your grades and set goals for yourself; plus, you’ll always have a study buddy!
The Weekend Warrior

On the other hand, you do also need a friend who isn’t afraid to let out their “wild side” every once in awhile (or more). After a long week of classes, the first person you’re going to want to call on Friday night is your friend who’s always up for anything. Having a drink or two and getting your dance on with a good friend is the perfect way to unwind, as long as you’re responsible about it.
The Roomie
The Roomie
It’s always a good idea to befriend your roommate, even if they aren’t your favorite person in the world (trust us, it will make your life a lot easier). Then, the worst that can happen is that you drift apart after you stop living together and the best that can happen is that you find yourself a new BFF/life partner/sister with whom you can share every aspect of your life in excruciating detail.
The Shy Guy
The Shy Guy
Shy people typically have a harder time making friends, but once they find someone they’re comfortable around, they’ll start to blossom. If you’re their friend, you will be able to see a side of them that hardly anyone else gets to see; and who knows? They could end up being the most amazing person you’ve ever met!
The Comedian
The Comedian
The best friends to have are the ones who keep you laughing, so you need to include at least one “class clown” in your circle of friends. This person has the special gift of turning even the worst situations into funny memories, so you’re practically guaranteed to have a good time with them.
The "Mom"
The
Every friend group should have a resident “mom” figure who always makes sure everyone has a safe ride home from parties and who brings everyone soup when they’re sick. If you"re attending college far from home, this friend will quickly become your favorite because sometimes you just need someone to give you a hug and tell you everything’s going to be alright.
The Hipster
The Hipster
If you"re a liberal arts college attendee, there will be no shortage of glasses-wearing, bearded hipsters to choose from. You don’t have to live the exact same lifestyle in order to be friends because you can both benefit from each other! This friend will help you loosen up and relax by taking you to a summer music festival, and you can help them by letting them use your shower.
