Tom Clancy’s analyst/action hero Jack Ryan has been portrayed in hit movies by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine, but recently he’s been given a new lease of life in the excellent TV series starring John Krasinski.

Now, he’s set to return for a third season, no doubt to save the world from imminent devastation once more. Here’s all we know about Jack Ryan season three.

When is the release date for Jack Ryan season 3?

There"s no confirmed release date at the moment for season three, with Covid disruptions breaking the yearly release cycle that we saw with the first two seasons. The show debuted in August 2018, then returned for a second outing in October 2019, but since then the shooting schedule has been thrown into confusion with the lockdowns and working restrictions that were put in place.

It seems that filming is still ongoing, with the cameras only starting to turn early this year after the delays. This was confirmed by a story in the Prague Reporter stating that filming would take place in the city during the middle of May.

This suggests that Ryan will resume his globe-trotting adventures at the end of 2021 or maybe in the first quarter of 2022.

What is the plot for Jack Ryan season 3?

We’ve not received an official press release outlining the story for season three, but several sites are reporting that it will see Jack wrongfully accused of a crime, meaning he has to go on the run across Europe. He will need to avoid the CIA and the dangerous group whose dealings he uncovered, which caused them to frame the analyst to preserve their secrets.

Can Ryan evade capture, stay alive and prevent the devastating conflict that the shady organisation is setting up? Well, yes, but we’ll all have a lot of fun watching him do so.

Is there a trailer for Jack Ryan season 3?

As filming has yet to be completed (at the time of writing) there isn’t a trailer available. But, if you’re hungry for some Jack Ryan action, you can always revisit the previous adventures. Here’s the trailers for those, to whet your appetite.

Who are the cast and crew of Jack Ryan season 3?

There’s been quite a lot of upheaval on this front, with new characters being introduced and senior production staff leaving the show.

In terms of the cast, here is how the principal characters line up:

  • John Krasinski – Jack Ryan
  • Wendell Pierce – James Greer
  • Michael Kelly – Mike November

We will also see the addition of Get Out star Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright, the new Chief of Station. This role was originally given to Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Blindspot), but she left shortly after filming began and was replaced by Gabriel.

Other new characters for season 3 include veteran Scottish actor James Cosmo (Braveheart, His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones), Alexej Manvelov (Chernobyl, Top Dog, Undercover), Nina Hoss (Shadowplay, Homeland), and Peter Guiness (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Pennyworth). We don’t know what roles they will play, but it’s a fine collection of talent.

On the production side, Digital Spy reports that previous showrunner Carlton Cuse has stepped back into an executive producer role and was set to be replaced by Paul Scheuring, who was the creator of Prison Break. This didn’t work out though, and now season three is in the hands of Vaun Wilmott, also from Prison Break and Star Trek: Discovery.
